Privacy
What this site collects, which is very little, and what happens when you write to me.
This site sets no cookies of its own and runs no analytics, tracking scripts or forms. The hosting provider keeps standard technical logs. If you email me, I receive what you send and use it to reply.
Who’s responsible
Studio Schafrath is the independent practice of Christopher Schafrath, based in Seattle, Washington, USA. I’m responsible for this site and for how information sent to me is handled. For anything about privacy, email hello@studioschafrath.com.
When you visit
The site is a set of static pages. It has no accounts, no contact forms, no comments and no newsletter sign-up, so visiting it doesn’t require you to give me anything.
It’s hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse: your IP address, browser and device details, the page you asked for, the page that linked you here and the time of the request. Your browser may also send Cloudflare network error reports, which are used to diagnose connection problems. Cloudflare handles this under its own privacy policy.
Cloudflare’s dashboard shows me aggregate traffic figures, such as how many requests the site received and from which countries. I don’t run analytics of my own, and I don’t use this information to identify anyone.
Cookies
The site doesn’t set cookies or use your browser’s storage, and it uses no advertising, analytics or social-media tracking. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie if it needs to check that traffic isn’t automated; it isn’t used to track you. Because there are no optional cookies, there’s nothing to accept and no cookie banner.
When you email me
Mail to hello@studioschafrath.com is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a Google (Gmail) inbox, so your message passes through Cloudflare and is stored by Google.
I use what you send, usually your name, your email address and whatever you tell me about your project, to reply to you, to discuss and scope possible work, and, if we work together, to run the project and keep the business records that come with it.
I don’t sell or rent it, and I won’t add you to a mailing list. I share it only with the services I rely on to handle email and run the business, or where the law requires it.
How long I keep it
I keep correspondence for as long as it’s useful to the conversation or the work that follows it, and project and financial records for as long as tax and legal obligations require. If you ask me to delete your messages and I’m not required to keep them, I will.
Your choices
You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by emailing hello@studioschafrath.com.
Depending on where you live, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or some US states, local law may give you further rights, including the right to complain to a data protection authority. Where laws like the GDPR apply, I rely on my legitimate interest in running this site and answering messages, and on the steps needed to agree and carry out work you’ve asked about. I’ll respond to requests within the time those laws allow.
Where it’s processed
I’m based in the United States. Cloudflare serves the site from a global network, and Google stores email in its own data centers. If you write from outside the US, your message will be processed in the US and possibly elsewhere.
Other sites and services
The fonts are served from this site, not from a font service. The site links to LinkedIn and GitHub, which have their own privacy policies once you follow a link.
Children
This site isn’t directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If what the site collects changes, for example if I add analytics or a contact form, I’ll update this page before the change goes live and change the date on it.
